Terri R. Zimmermann is a nationally-recognized expert criminal litigator with over 30 years of experience representing citizens accused of violating the law or convicted of crimes in civilian and military courts. Her unwavering passion is to secure the best possible outcome for each client, whether through challenging the prosecution at trial or presenting compelling appeals to overturn convictions. Ms. Zimmermann is on a mission to ensure that government entities, be it state, federal, or military, adhere to the rules, treating her clients fairly and with dignity.
Drawing from her extensive background in trying cases, including two years as a Marine Corps prosecutor and 25+ years as a defense lawyer, Ms. Zimmermann possesses the skills to analyze facts and laws, develop winning strategies, and execute zealous and thorough defenses. Her unique experience allows her to build cases meticulously, while also employing creative strategies and plain old hard work to break down the prosecution’s case.
Ms. Zimmermann’s active involvement as both a trial and appellate lawyer enhances her effectiveness in both arenas. As an active trial litigator, she understands the intricacies of criminal trials, ensuring proper preparation and litigation. Simultaneously, her experience as an appellate lawyer provides insight into how appellate courts analyze trial events in case of convictions. Additionally, her four years as a military trial judge and three years as a military appellate judge further reinforce her expertise in criminal trials and appeals.
Passionate about teaching, Ms. Zimmermann serves on the faculty of legal education programs nationwide, sharing her wealth of experience and knowledge. She is an adjunct professor at South Texas College of Law Houston, teaching military law, and has been a guest lecturer at prestigious institutions such as the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Tech Law School, and Sam Houston State University.
Recognized by her peers and legal organizations, Ms. Zimmermann is board certified in both Criminal Law and Criminal Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She is also certified as a Criminal Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Her consistent recognition as a Super Lawyer since 2009 and as a Rising Star from 2004 to 2007 highlights her outstanding legal achievements.
